Every Pregnant Person Can Benefit from Pelvic Therapy

We didn’t think this was a controversial statement, but it seems some explanation is in order.

Yes, we can help anyone who is pregnant. Even if they don’t have ‘symptoms.’ Or a complaint. Or something wrong.

Every Pregnant Person Can Benefit from Pelvic Therapy

Pelvic PT Rising: The pelvic health tools to make you a better clinician and/or a more successful business owner. We want every single pelvic health practitioner to be more confident and successful in your practice and career!

  • Clinical Courses: Game-changing online courses to make you more confident, challenge your thinking and improve patient outcomes

  • Business Resources: Helping 500+ pelvic health practitioners confidently start, grow and build their dream business!

There are changes in the body happening daily. We are the biomechanical experts. And we actually have the time to work with our patients. Alleviate fears. Screen for issues. Support their pregnancy journey.

Here’s four ways we can help our pregnant PEEPs (yep, it’s an acronym!)

  1. Educate on body changes and what is normal

  2. Exercise safely and confidently throughout pregnancy. Some are scared by what they hear from their OB and think all exercise is dangerous. Others completely ignore medical advice and continue with their pre-pregnancy exercise plan without any changes. We can be the bridge to a safe, confident exercise program in pregnancy.

  3. Prevention of low back pain, hip pain, pubic symphysis pain and other pregnancy issues. No, there isn’t a ‘study’ on this. But common sense – are we able to help optimize the body? Can that prevent or mitigate pain and symptoms? We can help outside the pelvic floor as well, in the mid-back, feet, hands or other areas where pain can develop during pregnancy.

  4. Prepare for birth. We can teach relaxation techniques, labor positions, pushing mechanics, perineal massage, breathing. Many pregnant people don’t get much (if any) birth prep.

So what is your ‘ideal’ pregnancy plan for your patients? Even the ones without symptoms? How and when do you want to work with them? Clarify your own Ethos so you can communicate it with your pregnant patients.
